After graduating from Gansu University of Chinese Medicine in China in 1983, ZHANG Yi chose to stay and served as a teaching assistant and then lecturer. Later, he was promoted to associate professor and then the deputy director of Acupuncture-moxibustion Department in the University. Since his arrival in South Africa in 1997, he has been engaged in TCM clinical practice. Currently he is the vice-chairman for both the South African Association of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.
In addition to introducing the epidemic situation of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in South Africa, we will also share TCM treatments of specific cases based on six-meridian syndrome differentiation, defense-qi–nutrient-blood syndrome differentiation and triple-energizer syndrome differentiation. In particular, we will discuss the differentiation thoughts on mild and moderate COVID-19 belonging to greater yang–lesser yang syndrome or greater yang–lesser yang-greater yin syndrome and the therapeutic effects of classical prescriptions.
